Top James Bond Movies: 22-1

So for the first post of this new and fantastic blog, I have decided to rank the James Bond movies, my favorite movie franchise, from 22-1. I'll also weigh in on my take on the early prospects of Bond 23. But without further ado, here is a definitive list of my personal favorite Bond movies from 22-1 (with spoiler alerts.)

22 On Her Majesty's Secret Service
Year: 1969
Bond Actor: George Lazenby
This Bond had it all. Boredom, bizarre plots, more boredom and a really tragic ending. I don't know how anyone could have possibly enjoyed this Bond.

21 For Your Eyes Only
Year: 1981
Bond Actor: Roger Moore

Another boring Bond film. A boring Bond girl, a boring villian, a boring premise. For Your Eyes Only is about as dull as you can get.

20 The Man with the Golden Gun
Year: 1974
Bond Actor: Roger Moore

The villian, Scalamangra, had a third nipple for god's sake. This movie should have had more action sequences and it probably would have been a little bit more exciting than it was.

19 The Living Daylights
Year: 1987
Bond Actor: Timothy Dalton

It wasn't just Timothy Dalton bringing a different style to the Bond character, it was more how there was a new Moneypenny, a new M16 facility and odd music. The Living Daylights was just weird compared to the other Bond films.

18 The World is Not Enough
Year: 1999
Bond Actor: Pierce Brosnan

This film had some highlights including the opening scene which was enjoyable and action packed. Denise Richards was just not a good Bond girl though and the bad guy was just not that intriguing. This film had its moments, but it was too inconsistent to be considered one of the better Bonds.

17 A View to a Kill
Year: 1985
Bond Actor: Roger Moore

The only thing A View to a Kill lacked was a spark of life and energy to push it over the top. It had great action sequences, great settings, a decent plot although the same as the plot of Goldfinger except involving micro chips and a great villain in Christopher Walken as Zoren. Roger Moore was just one or two movies past his prime.

16 Octopussy
Year: 1983
Bond Actor: Roger Moore

Their were a few too many bad guys in this one. But overall this was a solid Bond film except it was missing a few intangibles to be considered one of the better Bond films.

15 Tomorrow Never Dies
Year: 1997
Bond Actor: Pierce Brosnan

They had to kill off Teri Hatcher, she was much better than the Asian Bond girl, who kicked ass but just wasn't a good Bond girl otherwise. Elliot Carver was too much of a pussy to be a good villain and the plot was a little bit too similar to The Spy Who Loved Me.

14 Moonraker
Year: 1989
Bond Actor: Roger Moore

Well, you can say this was a rip-off because it was just too soon for Bond to go up in space after the release of Star Wars. But this was a good Bond film. The Bond girl, Dr. Holly Goodhead was very good and most of the settings were great as well like the scenes in Venice. This movie also had good action sequences, my personal favorite being the scene on the Gondolas with Jaws. The movie's downfall was a boring villain and a little bit over the top in ridiculousness at the end, just a little bit.

13 Live and Let Die
Year: 1973
Bond Actor: Roger Moore

Roger Moore was very satisfying in his first take as James Bond and this film overall was satisfying. I understand why people might put this one higher on their own personal list, but I'm not a big voo-doo guy and I didn't like the scenes on that strange island with all the snakes. Overall though, a very solid Bond film.

12 Quantum of Solace
Year: 2008
Bond Actor: Daniel Craig

Quantum of Solace was a different type of Bond. There still wasn't any Q or Moneypenny sightings, there was practically no good sex scenes, their was just one very brief one with the secretary who later dies. There also was more violence, Bond killed more people than in this one than in any other film. I guess that was because Bond was out for revenge, but nonetheless these ingredients aren't pure James Bond. That being said, this was still very exciting and a very fun Bond. I loved the opening car chase, the Bond girl and the settings used in QOS.

11 License to Kill
Year: 1989
Bond Actor: Timothy Dalton

Like Quantum of Solace, License to Kill was a different kind of James Bond movie. Bond was out for revenge after the villain, Sanchez, nearly kills Felix Leiter along with killing his wife. Bond resigns from M16 to go after Sanchez. I liked the Sanchez villain, but he was more deadly and more ruthless than most or all of the other Bond villains. This movie was action packed and edgier than most Bond films.

10 Diamonds Are Forever
Year: 1971
Bond Actor: Sean Connery

When you think of the most prominent Bond films, Diamonds are Forever is one of the films that comes to mind. This film had some of the best Bond women, the most notorious Bond villain in Blofeld and one last good outing from Sean Connery.

9 Die Another Day
Year: 2002
Bond Actor: Pierce Brosnan

Die Another Day was a fun and enjoyable ride with great action sequences, a great Bond girl in Jinx and cool locations such as an ice hotel in Iceland. Yes, I understand that the invisible car was just flat out stupid and I think the identity change was weird as well, but I really liked this Bond film otherwise.

8 You Only Live Twice
Year: 1965
Bond Actor: Sean Connery

You Only Live Twice had action and suspense throughout. The Japan setting was fantastic and the climax was epic. You Only Live Twice is certainly one of the best Bond films.

7 From Russia With Love
Year: 1962
Bond Actor: Sean Connery

From Russia With Love is one of the classic Bond films. The older films were less on the action but they were more on the plot development, which made them better films overall. I absolutely loved the Bond girls in this one as well, I think they put this film over the top.

6 The Spy Who Loved Me
Year: 1977
Bond Actor: Roger Moore

The Spy Who Loved Me was definitely Roger Moore's best outing as James Bond. There were so many great aspects of this film including the strained romance between Bond and Agent Triple X. We also had plenty of suspenseful scenes in the pyramids and ruins of Egypt. Superb Bond film.

5 Dr. No
Year: 1962
Bond Actor: Sean Connery

What can't you say about Dr. No. It was the first, it was one of the best, it was classic.

4 Goldeneye
Year: 1995
Bond Actor: Pierce Brosnan
Goldeneye was a breath of fresh air after their wasn't a great Bond film in a while. Goldeneye went back to the basics with a little bit of an extra dose of action. Pierce Brosnan was excellent and Sean Bean was fantastic as the super villain. Goldeneye is one of my personal favorites.

3 Goldfinger
Year: 1963
Bond Actor: Sean Connery

Goldfinger was outstanding and classic. There isn't much else you can say about it, it had it all and it was unforgettable.

2 Thunderball
Year: 1964
Bond Actor: Sean Connery

Thunderball was the best Connery film because of the water scenes and the backdrop of the Bahamas. Thunderball was exceptional.

1 Casino Royale
Year: 2006
Bond Actor: Daniel Craig

Casino Royale is the best Bond film ever. It was a breath of fresh air. It went back to the basics like Goldeneye did; they had casino scenes, car chases, romance, plot twists, action. I was on the edge of my seat throughout. Casino Royale, by a slim margin is the best Bond movie of all time.
